FISHING JAPANESE STYLE

 Hello, this is Japanese Angler Waki based in California.


 As you may know, fishing is very popular in Japan. From freshwater to saltwater, we have various fish to catch. So many fishing brands are there. Shimano, Daiwa, Megabass, Jackall, OSP, Keitech, Deps, DUO, etc.. We, the Japanese, are very serious about 'How to catch fish'. Process matters as well as results.

 My goal in this blog is
  • to introduce such Japanese styles, brands, and tackles.
  • to try those techniques and knowledge in the U.S. 



 I'm also posting my fishing footage on Youtube. Please check it out, too!

[Fishing Tips] TAMO AMI. Japanese landing net - FISHING JAPANESE STYLE

 When I first time moved to North America, I was surprised that I could not find any telescopic landing pole.  In Japan, Tamo-ami タモ網 is very popular and we can find it at any fishing store. It has a telescopic pole and net. The telescopic could be from 2m to 6m. When we fish from the rock, cliff, jetty, pier, etc.. we need a landing net with a very long pole. The telescopic landing pole makes it.  I introduce a Japanese-style landing net/pole. Tamo Ami.  In the U.S. (and Canada), I could not find it. So I bought some in Japan and brought it back. When I was into Bass Fishing, it was not always necessary. Since in many cases, I was fish at the water edge and could easily hand-landing the fish. But when I used Jerkbait with 3 triple hooks, the landing net was very useful. Bass fishing technique for Saltwater - Finesse approach  I've been into Bass fishing for over 10 years.  I used to be a saltwater-only angler who's chasing Japanese seabass in Tokyo bay every night. I honestly said I did not have any good image for Bass fishing. At that time in Japan, a HUGE Bass fishing movement had been happening. Lots of young anglers made a long line at the fishing tackle store seeking cool lures like MEGABASS lures. As a saltwater fisherman, I saw it with a cynical smile.  But in 2008, I moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I spent 3 years there. In Ontario, there was no chance to fish saltwater since no ocean there. I went to lakes, rivers, and canals. I tried my luck with a small spinner and got a surprising catch! It was Smallmouth bass!
