Be Free Texas rig / JUNGLEGYM Beans Sinker. A new Japanese style Texas rig.
Be Free Texas rig / JUNGLEGYM Beans Sinker
Today, I’ll introduce a Japanese rig you may have not seen yet. This is it. BE FREE TEXAS using Jungle Gym Beans Sinker. This rig is very popular in Japan, especially for Saltwater Rockfish fishing.
Jungle Gym is a small fishing brand, which has produced lots of Rockfish gear. This is Beans Sinker, designed for fishing a rocky bottom. This unique design provides a better snag-free capability. A rig using this weight is called BE FREE TEXAS. A short version is BIFUTEKI. I guess BE FREE means “Being free from snag”.
BE FREE TEXAS using Beans Sinker would be an interesting rig for all of you who love Texas, Free, and Jika rig.
This sinker can be used just like a bullet weight. But the shape is totally different. Top narrow, bottom big. Teardrop shape. This bottom-heavy shape provides a stable form when we cast a rig. Means a long-distance cast. And this also would fall vertically than the bullet weight. Just like a Free rig. Using a bullet weight, because of its shape, the rig tends to swim like this. Coming closer. But this weight would not. This can be better when we fish vertical covers like laydowns. And… this weight has an angle. A line comes through from the top and goes out horizontally.
When we bottom-drag this rig, this feature could make a big difference from a bullet-weighted Texas rig. With a bullet weight, the worm would be lying down on the bottom. But using this weight, the lure could stand up like this because of this angle. I'd say we should keep in mind this point when we choose a lure coupling up with this rig.
When we fish the rocky bottom, this weight also provides less snag capability. Using a bullet weight, when we drag a rig, a line can touch rocks first. It might make a rig stuck in covers.
But this weight has an angle. A line comes through from the top and goes out horizontally. So that, there would be a better chance the weight first touch covers instead of a line. This could help us avoid being snagged.
Overall, this is like a hybrid of Texas, Free, and Jika rig. It’s up to each angler which rig you pick up. I personally think Texas rig is the most versatile. So that my primary choice would often be a classic Texas rig. But this rig is of course interesting. I may need to test this more.
