[Japanese Anglers' Voice] Keitech Mad Wag [Review]

Curly tail worm. It's one of the popular soft baits for Bass fishing. My favorite Japanese lure brand, Keitech, of course, has a curly tail. Keitech Mad Wag.

Keitech calls its curly tail "Thick Bone Tail", which produces great swimming action. The ribbed body has what we call PGS (Point Guard System) that allows us to hide the hook point under the rib making this weedless. And yes, the lure has a strong Squid scent as well as other Keitech bait. This smells!

Line ups

They have mini, slim, original, and long. For saltwater, I'm using mini 3.5".

  •  Mini 2.5”
  •  Mini 3.5”
  •  Slim 4.5"
  •  Slim 6"
  •  Original 7”
  •  Long 8”
  •  Long 11”
They also have many color choices. But Keitech USA does not have as many colors as we have in Japan. We can find many colors that would greatly work for Largemouth bass. But colors like pearl white and shad are missing from the U.S line ups. It's a bit bummer but not a big deal for me. Since I can find my favorites Green Pumpkin and Black Blue Flake in the U.S. catalog.

Jig head rig.

For saltwater, I set up Mini 3.5" on the small jig head.

Usually, my primary bait is a shad-tail swimbait like Swing Impact. But when I find the swimbait's wobbling and rolling action is too much fish does not bite it, it's a time for curly tail worm, Cast, and steady reeling. The tail action would attract fish. I can get many bites. Small fish bites the tail and it's easily ripped off. It's annoying, though.

Texas rig, Jika rig, and Free rig

Keitech Official website (Japanese) introduced Texas rig to fish a weedy lake like the famous Lake Biwa. WIth texas rig, we can make it weedless. Mad Wag can have a stable swimming form with great tail action. It would attract BIG fish.

I have not yet tried Texas rigged Mad Wag, but it sounds promising. I should try it.

The voices from Japanese anglers.

  • 👍 Phenomenal tail action!
  • 👍 The best curly tail.
  • 👍 Keitech Squid scent.
  • 👍 The lure well dodges covers and debris.
  • 👍 The body does not lose balance when we reel in. Wow, nice.
  • 👍 High quality. Very nicely engineered.
  • 👍 Productive. Tons of fish.
  • 👍 Even with a slow retrieving, the tail can act well.
  • The tail is easily taken away by small panfish...
  • Fragile...
  • Too lightweight.
Go! Keitech!

 Thank you!
